A 1000 GSM single-sided twisted-loop drying towel, 70 x 90 cm. The long twisted loops pull water up into the pile and hold it there, so the towel glides over the paint on a film of water instead of being pushed into it. Most mid-size cars dry in a single pass, with no going back over panels you have already done.
Why twisted loop
Drying is where most swirl marks are put into paint. A waffle-weave towel holds less water for its size and saturates halfway around the car; a chamois or silicone blade drags anything the wash missed straight across the clear coat. A twisted-loop pile stands clear of its backing, so any grit that does come off the paint drops between the loops rather than riding along under the towel.
Why single-sided
One side is the drying pile, the other is a flat, tightly woven face. You always know which side goes on the paint, and the flat face carries the Nytride wordmark, printed in volt across the center of the black towel.
The details
Weight: 1000 GSM (grams per square meter)
Size: 70 x 90 cm, enough for the roof, hood and both sides of a mid-size car
Dry straight after the rinse, out of direct sun. Lay the towel flat on the panel and draw it toward you; let the loops lift the water rather than pressing down. Work from the roof down, and wring it out between panels if it gets heavy. More in our guide to drying a car without swirl marks.
Care
Wash before first use. Machine wash warm with a microfiber or mild liquid detergent, on its own or with other microfiber, never with cotton. No fabric softener and no bleach: both clog the fibers and stop the towel absorbing. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. The full routine is in how to wash a microfiber drying towel.
Drying is where most swirl marks get put into paint. What the towel is made of decides how much risk you take every time you do it.
Twisted loop
what we sell
Long loops of twisted yarn stand clear of the backing. Water is drawn up into the pile and held there, so the towel rides on a film of water instead of pressing fibres into the clear coat. Anything gritty that does come off the paint drops down between the loops.
Most forgiving of the three, and the only towel we sell.
Waffle weave
A shallow grid of flat pockets. It holds less water for its area, so on a full-size car it saturates before you finish and you go back over panels you have already dried.
More passes over the paint than the job needs.
Chamois or blade
Works by squeegeeing water off rather than absorbing it. Quick, and it leaves very few marks — as long as the surface underneath is genuinely clean.
Unforgiving if anything was missed in the wash.
How big is 70 × 90 cm?
Big enough to lay across most of a hood and draw toward you in one go. Most microfiber cloths are a quarter of the size, which means more passes and more wringing.
Towel
70 × 90 cm 27.5 × 35.5 in
Typical cloth
40 × 40 cm 16 × 16 in
Mid-size hood
about 150 × 110 cm 59 × 43 in
Drawn to scale. Laid flat, one towel covers close to half a mid-size hood.
How to dry in one pass
A good towel does most of the work. These four habits do the rest, and keep the drying from undoing the wash.
1
Start straight away
Dry right after the rinse, out of direct sun, before the water has time to spot.
2
Lay it, don't rub
Lay the towel flat on the panel and draw it toward you. The loops lift the water; pressing down only drags whatever grit is left.
3
Roof down
Work from the roof down, so water from above never runs back onto a panel you have finished.
4
Wring and finish
Wring it out between panels if it gets heavy. A second towel for glass, wheels and door jambs keeps the paint towel clean.
Before you buy
Anything not answered here, email support@nytride.com and you'll hear back within one business day.
Will it scratch my paint?
Nothing is scratch-proof — grit is what scratches paint, not the towel. The point of the twisted loop is that loose grit falls between the loops instead of being dragged across the surface, and the long pile keeps the backing off the clear coat.
Wash before you dry, and if you drop a towel on the ground, retire it. That one habit prevents more damage than any product.
How long will my order take?
The first run ships by January 15, then 3–5 business days in transit. You get a tracking number by email the day yours ships.
If that date slips, we email you before it does and you can cancel for a full refund. Full detail in the shipping policy.
What if I don't get on with it?
You have 30 days from delivery. Items need to be unused and in their original packaging — once microfibre has been through a wash cycle we can't sell it to anyone else.
If we sent the wrong thing or it arrived damaged, we cover return shipping and refund in full. See the return policy.
How do I wash the towel?
Wash before first use. Warm wash, on its own or with other microfibre, and no fabric softener, ever — softener coats the fibres and kills absorbency permanently. Tumble dry low or hang it.
Don't wash microfibre with cotton. It picks up lint and then leaves it on your paint.
Why buy more than one?
One towel dries a mid-size car. A second keeps glass, wheels and door jambs off the paint towel, and a third or fourth means there is always a clean one while the others are in the wash. The two-, three- and four-packs cost less per towel than buying them one at a time.
Where do you ship?
United States only for now, including Alaska, Hawaii and APO/FPO addresses. We're not set up for international shipping yet.
